Kamari, things to do.

Kamari was completely rebuilt after the 1956 earthquake and was the most important strategic point on the island after the decline of Acrotiri in ancient times. Kamari, is a tourist hotspot situated on the southeast side of Santorini. The area is famous for its beautiful beach extends all the way to Monolithos and for its green landscape. The official name of the village is "Episkopi Gonia" and took its name from the interesting church of Panaghia Episkopi which was built in 1100.

Things to do:

1. Ancient Thera

This 11th century BC Dorian settlement includes remains from Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods.

2. Panagia Episkopi Church

Panagia Episkopi was built in the late 11th Century by Emperor Alexios A’ Kominos. The church is an important Byzantine monument. It houses the icon of Panagia Glikofilousa, one of the third most priceless portable icons in the world.

3. ZOODOCHOS PIGI CAVE
Zoodochos Pigi church appears on the road from Kamari to Ancient Thira. A beautiful area to stop off, there are quite a few stone seats situated under trees and a large stone table just inside a cave.

4. Wine Museum (at Vothonas).

Being the only one of its kind in Greece, the Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum occupies a natural cave. It is eight meters below ground, 300 meters long and has a labyrinth-like shape. The Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum presents the history of wine and the life of vine-growers in Santorini since the 1600s.

5. Gaia winery.

Gaia’s winery is open to visitors from May to October and is situated by the sea, on the eastern side of the island, near the airport and between Kamari and Monolithos. The winery is located in a refurbished tomato processing factory dating back the early of last century.

6. Diving

The dive sites around Santorini are highly suitable for snorkelers and divers alike.

7. Horse Riding ,

Organises horse riding trips around Kamari beach throughout the whole touristic season.

8. Hiking from Kamari to Perissa.

There is a hiking trail between Perissa and Kamari Beach that passes by the archaeological site of Ancient Thera at the summit of the mountain ( 2 h).

KAMARI

Kamari a été entièrement reconstruit après le tremblement de terre de 1956 et a été le point stratégique le plus important sur l'île après le déclin de Acrotiri dans les temps anciens. Kamari, est une destination touristique située sur le côté sud-est de Santorin. La région est célèbre pour sa belle plage s'étend tout le chemin à Monolithos et de son écrin de verdure. Le nom officiel du village est «Episkopi Gonia» et tire son nom de l'église de Panaghia Episkopi intéressant qui a été construit en 1100.

Choses à faire:

1. Ancient Thera

Cette 11ème siècle avant JC règlement Dorian comprend des vestiges de hellénistique, romaine et byzantine.

2. Panagia Episkopi eglise

Panagia Episkopi a été construit à la fin du 11ème siècle par l'empereur Alexis A 'Kominos. L'église est un monument byzantin importante. Il abrite l'icône de Panagia Glikofilousa, l'un des troisièmes icônes portatives les plus précieux du monde.

3. Zoödóchos PIGI CAVE

Pigi église Zoodochos apparaît sur la route de Kamari à Théra. Une belle région à s'arrêter, il ya quelques sièges en pierre situées sous les arbres et une grande table de pierre juste à l'intérieur d'une grotte

4. Musée du vin ( Vothonas).

Étant le seul de son genre en Grèce, le Musée du Vin Koutsoyannopoulos occupe une grotte naturelle. Il est huit mètres sous terre, 300 mètres de long et a une forme de labyrinthe. Le Musée du Vin Koutsoyannopoulos présente l'histoire du vin et de la vie des viticulteurs à Santorin depuis les années 1600.

5. Cave de Gaia.

L'exploitation viticole de Gaia est ouvert aux visiteurs de Mai à Octobre et est situé en bord de mer, sur la côte orientale de l'île, près de l'aéroport et entre Kamari et Monolithos. Le vignoble est situé dans une usine de transformation de la tomate rénové datant du début du siècle dernier.

6. Plongée sous-marine

Les sites de plongée autour de Santorin sont très convenables pour les plongeurs et les plongeurs.
